Where to get mammograms in Singapore
by Business Listings EditorPhoto credit: Canstockphoto
A mammogram is a special breast X-ray made to detect early cancer symptoms such as suspicious masses, specks or breast distortion of any kind.
A mammography machine takes two X-ray views per breast, and the results are processed within 2 to 3 weeks. Women aged 50 and above should be screened every 2 years. The reason for screening is to help detect breast cancer in its early stages when it is still relatively easy to manage and cure.
Where can women get mammograms in Singapore?
Breast screening is important for women, especially if you are above the age of 40. The following venues will help you to know further about screening.

You can also get a mammogram in one of the major hospitals in Singapore. You have many choices of hospitals, including the Alexandra Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, KK Women's and Children's Hospital, The National Cancer Centre, John Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre, Mount Alvernia Hospital and Medical Centre, Thomson Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Medical Centre and many others.
Government initiatives on prevention of breast cancer
The Government has initiated BreastScreen Singapore (BSS) which gives the guidelines to women of all ages regarding the type of screening that they should do and how often it must be done. With the help of health care professionals, women are also trained how to perform self-examinations on themselves.
Government hospitals give screening procedures and treatment of breast cancer at subsidised rates (S$50 for Singaporeans and S$75 for Permanent Residents). There are also massive awareness campaigns from the government during breast cancer-awareness month of October and other events that target women’s health.
Prevention is always better than cure, and women must regularly self-check to detect any suspicious lumps in their breasts. When in doubt, head over to a women's clinic that offers mammography near you.
