Singapore National Eye Centre

Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) was incorporated in 1989 and commenced operations in 1990. It is the designated centre within the public sector healthcare network to spearhead and coordinate the provision of specialised ophthalmological services with emphasis on quality education and research.

Nine subspecialties have been established to provide a full range of eye treatment from comprehensive to tertiary levels for the entire spectrum of eye conditions, viz,

- Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology

- Corneal and External Eye Disease

- Glaucoma

- Neuro-Ophthalmology

- Oculoplastic and Aesthetic Eyeplastic

- Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus

- Refractive Surgery

- Ocular Inflammation and Immunology

- Vitreo-Retina

SNEC is actively involved in clinical trials and research into the causes and treatment of major eye conditions such as myopia and glaucoma. Thousands of ophthalmologists from neighbouring countries and beyond have participated in the Centre’s teaching courses and international meetings. To advance ophthalmic science and service, and to increase opportunities for professional interactions and collaboration, SNEC has also fostered strategic links with leading eye institutions around the world.

The centre’s one-stop multi-subspecialty approach to treatment of complex eye conditions, a quality assurance programme that is backed by 100% audit of outcomes and its pursuit of high-impact translational research have placed SNEC as one of the premier eye centres in the region.
