Health and wellness benefits of yoga

Tracing its origin from ancient India, yoga has proven itself to be one of the oldest and greatest forms of exercise that promotes overall well-being. It is an exercise that mainly involves movements, breathing and meditation to unify the body, mind and spirit as well as to achieve a better relationship with our environment.

Look around and you’ll see different types of yoga classes held almost everywhere and “regular” and “hot yoga” (also known as “Bikram yoga”) are the most common of all.
Regular yoga is performed at standard room temperature while Bikram yoga is done in a heated room with a temperature ranging from 32 to 47 degrees in Celsius.
Even then, Bikram yoga and other types of yoga are no different from each other and are said to provide similar health benefits such as endurance, physical benefits of muscular strength, flexibility and balance.

Some of the benefits of doing yoga include a toned, flexible body. It increases your range of motion and helps increase energy level. Aside from these, yoga also improves concentration and posture.
It can also reduce your stress, help you lose weight and make your skin radiant. Yoga also benefits the mind by helping you control your emotions and hone your decision-making abilities.

Yoga also improves focus and helps in healing certain illnesses like migraine, back pains, asthma, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, joint problems and some stress-related conditions.
Not only that, it also strengthens the immune and lymphatic system. However, the most prominent benefit of yoga is supposedly detoxification.

Increased blood circulation in the genital area has proven to enhance sexual arousal, performance and satisfaction. Being in tune with one’s body and mind can also increase confidence in bed.
Controls Food Cravings

Researchers from the University of Washington found that people who have incorporated yoga exercises into their daily lives are more conscious about the food that they put into their body. They are also less susceptible to emotional eating, a common cause of weight gain.
Whether you are a fan of the hot yoga or just the regular one, it is hard to deny the many benefits of the yoga practice to your overall physical and emotional well-being.
