Beat the Holiday Pounds

Due to Singapore’s geographical location and the various cultures composing its population, Singapore’s food choices are nothing short of amazing. This is normally a good thing – having easy access to Thai and Indian food right around the corner where you work, having exquisite Chinese food any time of the day, being able to enjoy authentic Italian and American cuisine as you please – but as the Christmas season approaches, you’re sure to have more chances than usual to enjoy the rich food around Singapore. Unfortunately, this may take a toll on your waistline. Uh-oh. So just how do you enjoy the Christmas festivities with minimal damage to the weighing scales. Here’s how.
Don’t Forget Your Gym Membership
You’ve paid for it, so use it! Take advantage of the gym and exercise, especially during this time of the year. The gym will NOT be closed during the entire holiday season (contrary to what your mind might trick you into believing). If you have a personal trainer (which is advisable this season), give him or her a heads up on the days you’ll be doing extra crunches. Believe us, you’ll need it. You don’t have to deprive yourself of having festive food this holiday season; you just have to make sure that you go back to your program after. Go to the gym, yes, go to the gym. Increase your repetitions and work out a bit longer than usual.
Don’t Go to a Party Hungry
You’ll have the biggest and most tempting smorgasbords in front of you this Christmas season , but please don’t go to a party hungry. This especially applies if you’ll arrive early or if there’s a program before it’s time to eat. We’re trying to avoid eating too much, so drink a glass of water before you leave your home or office, eat some crackers, have bananas or an apple – don’t starve yourself the whole day in preparation for pigging out later. It might seem like a good idea to reserve your stomach to stuff it with treats later, but trust us when we say you’ll regret it after when you have trouble stuffing yourself into your pants.
Eat Slow and Small
Eating slowly will help you get full faster. Aside from this, it will also help if you eat moderately. Get small portions of the food you like then eat slowly. Take time to pause before you get another serving to help your body utilize your meal. This will also help avoid “over stretching your stomach”.
Avoid Soda
Soft drinks are bad for your body any time of the year, even on holidays. Diet sodas won’t do any good to your waistline either, so it’s better to avoid them completely as well. Of course if you’re eating a lot, you’ve got to drink something – water is your safest bet. Help your body to stay healthy and lean this Christmas season by drinking hefty glasses of water every meal.
It’s Your Body; Take Charge
Probably the most important advice we can give you to have minimal damage on the weighing scales this holiday season is for you to take charge of your body. Think before you eat. Eat just right. Drink just the right amount of alcohol. Don’t deprive yourself, but don’t overindulge. Go to the gym. Exercise. Take charge of your body and you’re sure to still smile at yourself after New Year’s.
