The Tots' Classroom

The Alpha Lambda program takes a two pronged approach to developing children. This approach is derived from early childhood development and teaching theory. First, we enhance a child’s natural development. By enhancing their natural development, we are able to more effectively facilitate learning. This program is keyed to the general developmental milestones of children 2-6 years old. It is designed to help early learners progress towards and reach their early childhood learning milestones. Each child will develop at their own pace. However, we believe that through knowledgeable guidance of parents, carers and the children, children will be encouraged to reach these developmental milestones sooner. This program uses fun, play and games to help children develop. Teachers practise teaching by opportunity. This means teaching children in a structured manner when the child is ready and curious about an object or idea. The curriculum and surroundings that we teach in are used to elicit curiosity in the child. When the child becomes curious about an idea or object or action, teachers demonstrate, explain and help the child learn and master the concept. These concepts, ideas and actions are embedded in a curriculum that is based on developing a positive attitude, learning and study skills, confidence, social skills, reaching and mastering physical developmental milestones and communication skills.
